Every journey begins with a moment of uncertainty. A new job. A new relationship. A move to an unfamiliar city. The decision to finally leave something that no longer makes us happy. Before every significant beginning, there is usually a moment when we stand at the edge of the unknown and wonder, What if this doesn’t work? And yet, we take the step. In Tarot, this is where the Fool’s Journey begins.
Over the next five weeks, we will travel through one of Tarot’s most fascinating stories—the journey of the Fool through the 22 Major Arcana cards. But this is not really a story about Tarot. It is a story about us. The Fool represents every one of us at the beginning of something new. We may not have all the answers. We may not know where the road will lead. In fact, the people around us may even think we are being slightly foolish. Perhaps that is exactly the point.
Think about the last time you made a major change in your life. Did you know with absolute certainty that it would succeed? Probably not. Whether it was starting a business, saying yes to love again after heartbreak, changing careers, or simply choosing to believe in yourself after years of doubt, every meaningful beginning required you to step forward before you felt completely ready. The Fool teaches us that certainty is not always the requirement for a new beginning. Sometimes courage is simply the willingness to take the first step without knowing where the entire journey will lead.
In the coming weeks, we will follow the Fool as he discovers his own power, learns to trust his intuition, falls in love, makes mistakes, faces loss, experiences unexpected change, and eventually finds his way back to himself. And perhaps, somewhere along this journey, we may recognise something familiar. Because the truth is, we are all walking our own Fool’s Journey. We are all learning, falling, beginning again and, hopefully, becoming a little wiser along the way.
