Attack Of The Anxiety

by | Apr 19, 2024

Have you ever felt your heart racing, your body temperature rising, and your hands shaking uncontrollably? Your stomach churns and your mind spirals into the worst-case scenarios. You might feel completely unequipped to handle the situation as if everything is about to fall apart. I know exactly how that feels because I experienced it firsthand just last week. It all began with a confrontation with a toxic family member, hurling accusations and insults my way. My immediate instinct was to retreat into my room and shut out the chaos. But within minutes, I found myself engulfed in a whirlwind of anxiety. My heart was pounding at an alarming rate—186 beats per minute to be exact, far above the normal range of 60 to 100 beats per minute. I was trembling, feeling utterly overwhelmed.

In that moment of crisis, I turned to two simple yet powerful techniques to regain control and calm my racing heart.

Firstly, I embraced the practice of breathing meditation. Finding a comfortable position, I closed my eyes and focused on my breath. Inhale… 1-2-3-4. Exhale… 4-3-2-1. With each cycle, I felt a sense of grounding and serenity washing over me. The physical symptoms began to subside slowly, and my racing thoughts started to quieten.

Secondly, I turned to mantra chanting, invoking the divine presence of Hanuman, my protector and guide. Reciting the Hanuman Chalisa, I immersed myself in the soothing rhythm of the ancient verses. With each repetition, I felt a profound sense of strength and reassurance enveloping me, dispelling the shadows of doubt and fear.

As I gradually regained my composure, I took a moment to nourish my body with water and fresh fruit, replenishing my physical and emotional reserves.

Now, I understand that everyone’s experience with anxiety is unique, and what works for one person may not necessarily work for another. It’s crucial to seek professional help if you find yourself struggling with anxiety regularly. However, in moments of immediate distress, these simple practices can offer a lifeline, providing a beacon of hope amidst the storm.

My dear readers, remember that you are never alone in your struggles. With patience, perseverance, and a willingness to explore new avenues of healing, you can overcome even the most daunting challenges. Take a deep breath, recite your mantra, and know that brighter days lie ahead.

“Let your mind and heart rest for a while. You will catch up, the world will not stop spinning for you, but you will catch up. Take a rest.” —Cynthia Go
